I have been Leader of Unitary Authority Rutland CC since 2003, having previously been Cabinet member for Education. I was Chair of Lincolnshire LSC before becoming Regional Chair LSC, responsible for all post 16 education and training including Train to Gain and Apprenticeships and working very closely with business, colleges/providers and Job Centre Plus.
I was heavily involved in the setting up of the Employment and Skills Board because I believe passionately in the need for our economies to develop which will involve upskilling. With a history of running a number of food companies and involvement regionally in tourism, I have experience of two key elements of the economy. To this is now added the public sector at local and regional level.
The current business environment emphasises for the need for this Board to be effective.
