Principal and Chief Executive of Tresham College of Further and Higher Education

Mark Silverman joined Tresham, a college of further and higher education - based in Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and Oakham - in January 2008.

His qualifications are:
BA (Hons) Politics 1:1 Warwick University (1990)
MA (Econ) European Politics and Economy Manchester University (1993)

1993-199 Full time teaching A levels in a 6th Form College, Harrow
1993-1999 Head of Faculty: Social & Creative Studies at Harrow FE College
2003-2007 Director of Quality at West Herts College, Watford

He led on the rapid quality improvement required following a failed Ofsted inspection culminating in the 2005 re-inspection judgement of “good” with “outstanding” capacity to improve.  Following the successful re-inspection, he led on the college’s Higher Education strategy and 14-19 curriculum development.

Within less than a year leading significant change within the organisation intended to raise the performance of the college to outstanding within 5 years and to develop collaborative relationships with key partners.

In 2008, Tresham was on the second college in the East Midlands to successfully attain the new Training Quality Standard (employer engagement charter mark).

Key strategic priorities for 2009 are: 
  • Development of a Rutland Learning Partnership as a Trust to develop a greater range of high quality learning and high level skills to young people, adults and employers in Rutland.
  • Submission of a detailed bid to create a new University Centre within Tresham, as part of the University Challenge initiative.
